I’m Adelle, the accountant who went looking for a straight answer to “how much does a gap year across Asia actually cost” — and never found one. Then we took the plunge, and our reality turned out so different from everything I’d read that I started writing it all down.

A few things people always ask
Do you actually make money doing this?
Some. I still do accounting work. The blog’s honest about what covers what — that’s rather the point, and as we try new things to earn income online I will share the experience.
What about school?
We do a mix of worldschooling and routine that keeps our boy learning as we move — and we’ll share exactly what we use, because it’s hard knowing where to start and constantly fighting the feeling of is my child behind.
Why “receipts”?
Because the “travel is cheaper than you think” posts I’d read all focused on how cheap food, accommodation and experiences can be — but at very, very basic standards. Living our actual life, we blew through a big chunk of our budget in the first three months.
